What Is the Kitty Hawk Reserve?
Located just up the road from our Outer Banks resort is the Kitty Hawk Woods Reserve, which was dedicated as a state nature preserve in 1992. Kitty Hawk Bay and Albemarle Sound border this 1,890-acre space. The reserve is home to globally rare plant communities and relics of ancient sand dunes. These communities include interdune ponds, a maritime deciduous forest, and a maritime swamp forest.
Thanks to its diverse habitats, Kitty Hawk Woods is home to various plants and animals. If you’re interested in doing a bit of bird watching, this area should be on the top of your list, especially during migration season.
