Don’t unpack all your winter gear just yet. The Outer Banks warm weather lingers in the high 50s throughout November. So, when you join us for Thanksgiving, you’ll still be able to visit the pier for some fishing or just to enjoy the view. Furthermore, expert gastronomers know that in order to make it through a Thanksgiving feast, you have to get outside and work off the calories. The shimmering shorelines of the Atlantic Ocean make the perfect morning stroll backdrop. However, if you’re looking for something more strenuous, you can sign up for the annual Turkey Trot or Surfin’ Turkey and other fun runs. The Turkey Trot is a promotional event to encourage people to stay active, run or walk, through a charitable event. As for the Surfin’ Turkey Run, that’s a beautiful 5K that takes you through the historic fishing village of Hatteras while all the proceeds from the race go to support the youth of Hatteras Island. After the fun runs, come back to The Beachside Bistro for a tasty Thanksgiving meal, served between noon and 4 pm. You’ll want to stay in town through the weekend to see beautiful holiday light displays as you’ve never seen before. Lite-up Kites will be flying above Jockey’s Ridge, as well as the famous solar Christmas Tree lighting.
