The Atlantic Ocean, with its beauty and power, captures much of the focus from visitors, but the Sounds (Albemarle, Roanoke and Pamlico) that separate us from the mainland are vast as well. With all of this water surrounding us, we here on the Outer Banks pride ourselves on finding as many ways to enjoy it with a wide variety of toys – from surfboards to very large fishing boats. In particular, paddling on the Outer Banks has gained in popularity and with the explosion of stand up paddle boarding (SUP) in the past decade, there have been more people enjoying the water than ever before.
Paddling on the Outer Banks is a wonderful way of getting out into mother nature on the water and enjoying the environment while also using your body. It’s a powerful way of connecting to the beauty of the Outer Banks along with your fellow paddlers. Paddling is also a very good way to enjoy a vacation with your family or a group. You can also go kayak fishing as well – this happens mostly in the sound and rivers, but can also be done in the ocean if the conditions are right and you have enough experience. Whatever your taste is for the kind of paddling you want to do, the Outer Banks has endless possibilities!
