Where to Find Surfboard Rentals
Not everyone has surfboards readily available to bring with them on vacation. Luckily, there are plenty of places to rent from near our Kill Devil Hills resort. The Secret Spot Surf Shop in nearby Nags Head has both hard and soft-top boards in a range of sizes. Ocean Atlantic Rentals in Kill Devil Hills also offers foam and hard-top surfboards. There’s also Outer Banks Boarding Company and Kitty Hawk Kites.
Where to Go Surfing
There are plenty of excellent places to surf near our OBX resort, including the waters off the Kitty Hawk and Avalon Pier. There’s also Jennette’s Pier, which is considered one of the best and oldest in the area. Remember that pier pilings can become obstacles, so local regulations require surfers to stay at least 100 yards away from them. You’ll also want to check the surf report before heading out.

If you’re new to surfing, a great way to try the sport is by signing up for Outer Banks surfing lessons. Lessons with Outer Surf, which offers a range of lessons, include instruction on both the beach and water. Outer Banks Surf School has one, three, and five-day lesson options. A third option is Kitty Hawk Kites, which offers lessons in Nags Head.
