The Wright Brothers Gliding

The Wright brothers grew up loving to invent things. Their interested in flying came from a  toy helicopter gift from their dad, which flew thanks to a rubber band. They experimented with making their own helicopters and kites throughout their childhood. From 1900 to 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright journeyed from Dayton, Ohio to the Outer Banks, North Carolina to perfect their flying machines. After extensive research from the U.S. Weather Bureau, they discovered that the Outer Banks provided some of the steadiest winds in the country as well as beautiful dunes, implementing both the height and soft landing needed to research their gliders. They worked and experimented for years with various gliders, perfecting the wing design and controls. Then they learn how to make efficient propellers and a lightweight engine. There was a lot of technology, knowledge, and courage involved in making that first flight. Which took place at Kitty Hawk, on December 17, 1903, the flight lasted 12 seconds. Kitty Hawk Kites offers many hang gliding services, from assisted first-timer flights to professional gliders.  Most guests are curious visitors following in the Wright Brother’s footsteps.
