Family-Friendly OBX Summer Nights to Remember!

Planning summer days at the Outer Banks is easy- pack a cooler, slather on some sunscreen and head to the beach! Evening plans are a bit trickier if you are unfamiliar with the Outer Banks. Thankfully OBX residents like to have fun therefore many local establishments host events and activities regularly throughout the summer. 7 years old or 70, the Outer Banks has a nightly activity for your entertainment! Here some ideas for Family Friendly OBX Summer Nights:

Live Performance- The Lost Colony

Witness a live performance demonstrating the history of the Lost Colony  at the outdoor Duck amphitheater. The Lost Colony play is informative and interactive, perfect for educating young ones in a fun manner about American history.

Outer Banks Sand Dunes

One of the landmarks the Outer Banks is most famous for is Jockey’s Ridge, the tallest natural sand dunes in the Eastern US! Visit the Outer Banks dunes of Jockey’s Ridge in Nags Head and watch the beautiful sunset. This is a wonderful place for your children to run and play without any worries in the soft sand. Climb to the other side of the dunes and splash in the sound. Family Friendly OBX Summer Nights like this will make memories for a lifetime.

Toys, Ice Cream, Oh My!

The Kitty Hawk Kites shopping complex is located directly cross the bypass from Jockey’s Ridge. You’ll find a variety of shops to peruse and entertain your family. Hair Wraps, Toys, and other fun items are scattered throughout these fun shops. Don’t forget to stop by Scoops Ice Cream for a delicious Ice Cream Sundae.

Putt- Putt and Go-Karts

Visit one of the numerous locations on the Outer Banks for a family fun Putt-Putt challenge. Putt-Putt establishments are open well into the night when the sun has set and the air is cooler. If you’re more of a speed racer, visit the Full Throttle Speedway for Go- Kart racing. Full Throttle Speedway is adjoined to the Mutiny Bay Adventure Golf in Kill Devil Hills.

Ghost Crab Hunting

Ghost crab hunting is a free and fun family activity. Grab some flashlights and explore the Outer Banks beach at night. Not only is the beach a different magical world at after dark but also the crabs come out of hiding. See who can spot the most ghost crabs!

Live Music

Enjoy a delicious family dinner at the Beachside Bistro while enjoying live music Thursday – Saturday! Delectable seafood entrees are served for the adults and a yummy menu is available for children. The Beachside Bistro is literally on the oceanfront so enjoy that family night beach stroll (or ghost-crab hunt) after dinner!
