Bodie Island lighthouseshutterstock_89895526

The Bodie Island lighthouse is also a self-guided lighthouse that makes for a great sea ranch getaway. So, you can enjoy the gorgeous Bodie Island area and admire the east coast’s largest lagoon, Pamlico Sound at your own pace. The Bodie Island Lighthouse is open from the third Friday in April through early October, Columbus Day. Climbs start at 9 and end at 4:30 pm daily, tickets are required to climb. This 156-foot-tall black-and-white lighthouse towers-over Bodie Island and was rebuilt three times already! The first lighthouse was poorly constructed and fell three times, and the second was demolished during the Civil War. The latest version was just renovated in 2013. It still operates as a working lighthouse today and can be seen nineteen miles from shore. Guests say the recent renovations make this lighthouse a must and recommend stopping by the lower level’s small museum and gift shop.
